I hope you are enjoying the Summer in spite of lots of rain. I am pleased that many of you continue practising your art and craft throughout the summer and thank you for sharing  photos of your lovely  work with me!

These are our News from the Magic Wool Art and Craft Studio.

The online  ‘Introduction to Soft pastels’ course is going really well with lots of fantastic work being produced. I am very proud of my learners’ achievement and happy to share their efforts with you in this Newsletter.

The New Academic Year is starting soon and many of you are beginning to plan your activities for the Autumn and Winter months.

I am going to continue teaching interactive online art and craft courses, since some of you prefer the ‘zoom format ‘of learning.
I will also teach some face-to-face courses for those who enjoy learning art and craft at my studio.

This is a unique opportunity for Art and Craft lovers, beginners, and people with some experience in Art and Craft, to receive a proper Art education in the traditional methods by a professional artist and tutor Raya Brown.

Raya’s teaching is based on classical Art education with emphasis on the importance of developing solid traditional foundation skills in drawing and painting.

This course will assist you to take your Art and Craft projects to the next level and gain confidence in developing your own ideas and artistic style.

The course will include:

– Building strong basis of drawing skills and techniques
– Exploring line, shape, form, tone, texture, pattern and colour
– Developing knowledge of composition, proportions and perspective
– Developing creativity and artistic vision
– Studying famous works of Art

‘ Portrait’ Advanced  Level course  –  10-week Interactive online Art course with live Tuition. (Prior experience in Portrait drawing is necessary)

Cost £15 a week.

Mondays 6pm-9pm      Starting 4th  of October. 

Over the 10-week course you will study the techniques and ideas of the famous traditional and contemporary Portrait artists which will inform your approaches to drawing  portraits. The course will offer you the opportunity to explore and experiment with various techniques and materials, such as pastels, charcoal and graphite and offer a particular insight into painting watercolour portraits. You will be encouraged to develop your own ideas and personal language in response to the model.

You will receive plenty of individual help being guided and inspired by a professional Artist and Tutor Raya Brown.  Small groups of learners and clear step-by-step instructions are guaranteed.   Visual resources and recordings of online classes will be provided.

During the course you will:

  •  Study other artists’ Portraits and investigate a range of styles, approaches and techniques
  • Study Portrait composition in-depth
  • Develop your skills using watercolour and produce watercolour portraits
  • Further explore and experiment with charcoal, graphite, chalk pastels and mixed media techniques
  • Learn how to show various moods, feelings and emotions in your Portraits using expressive colours, tones, unusual angles and dramatic compositions.
  • Explore and create interesting backgrounds for your Portraits
  • Develop you own artistic style and use your ideas to create some professional portraits

 

‘Fundamental Art Skills Level 3’ course with focus on Landscape.

10-week Interactive  online  course with live tuition.   

 Previous Art experience is necessary  

  The course  will start on Wednesday  29th of September  and will run on Wednesdays 10am-1pm.   

This is a great interactive course for those who are eager to undertake a creative art project, exploring landscape and develop their artistic skills further. The course will be a creative journey with a starting point, exploration and development and an end destination in a form of an amazing and unique final piece.

During the course you will develop your observational drawing skills and continue learning how to use various techniques and materials, such as watercolour, coloured pencils, pastels and fine liners. You will study the work of famous artists and develop your own creative ideas which will culminate in a mixed media final piece.  You will also study composition and pay a particular attention to planning and development of  composition for your personal final piece- The Landscape.  

 You will experience all the important stages of art work that the artists go through to create a meaningful and unique piece of Art which you will be proud of.

Cost £15 a week. 

 

 

Morning Watercolour Art Course for beginners and more experienced amateur artists. 

 10-week Face-to-Face course.  Mondays 10am- 1pm. Cost £19 a week.

Evening  Watercolour Art Course for beginners and more experienced amateur artists. 

 10-week Face-to-Face course.  Mondays 6pm- 9pm. 

Both courses will start on Monday 17th of January.

 

Learn how to use the beautiful, transparent medium of watercolour.

You are invited to join a group of enthusiastic like minded people to study Watercolour painting in relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Magic Wool Art and Craft Studio. Guided by a professional Artist Raya Brown you will receive step-by-step instructions and individually tailored tuition, inspired by Raya’s watercolour demonstrations and her own work. If you always wanted to learn watercolour painting but never had a chance or confidence to start or develop your skills further this is the course for you.  Raya’s teaching methods will help you overcome your fears of watercolours and make it fun to learn and help you develop your own personal artistic style. This is the most comprehensive course with well-structured art classes.

This is a brilliant interactive  course for those who are eager to learn how to draw beautiful portraits in a classroom environment and develop their artistic skills further. This is a great chance for everyone to observe professional artist’s demonstrations, ask questions and socialise with like-minded people.

The course will teach you how to capture facial proportions and likeness and show feelings and emotions in your portraits. You will have a chance to explore your creativity using various materials such as pastels, coloured pencils,  charcoal and graphite or other materials available to you as well as different techniques. You will develop your observational skills and study portraits created by famous artists. You will receive plenty of individual help, being guided and inspired by a professional Artist and Tutor Raya Brown.  Your tutor will set  the homework  and give you detailed feedback on each art piece to enable you to progress faster.  Small groups of learners and clear step-by-step instructions are guaranteed.  Some visual resources and recordings of online classes will be provided.

“ Red Robin with snowdrops” Wool Painting course ( Experience in wool painting is necessary),  Saturday 22nd January 11am-6pm  £75 (materials included)

This is not felt making. This is making a painting using layers of merino wool and enhancing it with silk or viscose fibres. This is a workshop for people with experience in wool painting. You do not need to be an artist but you need to have some knowledge of wool painting techniques. This is a step by step workshop which is designed for you to have fun with different wools and experiment with colour and fibres. Come around and advance your skills in wool painting as well as explore the qualities of various fibres. At the end of this class you will make a fantastic gift for yourself or a friend-a wool painting which you will put in a glass frame and take with you!

Felted Jewellery (Absolute beginners workshop), Saturday 29th January  11am-5pm £65 (materials included)

 

Learn an ancient art and craft of felt making with a professional Artist Raya Brown .  Enjoy the tactile therapeutic experience of handing natural fibres in a comfortable atmosphere of Magic Wool Art and Craft Studio with like minded people. You will study wet felting techniques and find out how to make a flat piece of felt as well as 3D felt. You will love this experimental and creative workshop  and enjoy exploring different fibres, shapes and colours. At the end of this  workshop you will make beautiful felted beads, a necklace and a lovely flower brooch. 

 
These are my students’ latest Soft Pastel paintings. They are still continuing to explore the Soft pastels at the ‘Introduction to Soft pastels’ online zoom course. I am delighted with their achievement. I am sorry if I  can’t display all the fantastic work they produced.
