During our Introduction to Soft Pastels course, my learners and I created some vibrant sunset scenes. We experimented with various types of pastel paper and quickly realized how crucial the right surface was for achieving the desired effect in artwork. Here are some more sketches from our online urban landscape course. Building entrances make an excellent subject to sketch. Look for characterful doors, archways, and porches. Trees and plants often add a beautiful décor to the subject. My students enjoyed using felts, fine liners, and water brushes to create these sketches.
